          Check and security

Security rules, regulations and procedures at Venice Marco Polo Airport.

Arrive at the airport well in advance.

          • 3 hours before departure if your destination requires passport control,
          • 2 hours before departure for all other flights,

or as specified by the airline operating your flight.

Arriving early at the airport will give you time to check in, pass through security and any border controls, and board your flight smoothly, even during peak traffic periods when security lines may be longer.

          Going through security

          • Scan your boarding pass with the bar code facing down at the turnstiles gates for access control. Access to the area is permitted only to holders of paper or digital boarding passes.
          • Place on the X-ray conveyor, inside the control trays, your personal effects, including laptops, mobile phones, tablets and other electronic devices removed from hand baggage, as well as the baggage itself;

          • Place your coats and any personal items (mobile phone, wallet, electronic devices, belt, etc.) in the trays provided.
          • Walk through the metal detector and cooperate with security personnel if they ask to search you.
          • Security personnel may ask you to remove items of clothing (e.g. shoes) and manually inspect hand baggage.
          • Remember to retrieve your belongings from the trays after the check is complete.
          • In the event of material damage at the security checkpoints, the passenger must immediately notify the personnel on duty before leaving the area used for checks; otherwise, requests for reimbursement for damage to personal items and/or luggage will not be considered.

Security screening for liquids, aerosols and gels (LAGs)

Remove liquids, aerosols and gels from your hand baggage before arriving at security. Remember that:

              • Containers larger than 100 ml or equivalent (100 grams) are not permitted
              • The containers must be packed in a single transparent, re-sealable plastic bag of maximum dimensions 18 x 23 cm, containing up to 1 litre.
              • For each passenger (infants included) the transport of one and only one plastic bag with the characteristics indicated above and of the aforementioned dimensions will be permitted.

The following liquids can be transported outside the bag but separated from hand luggage:

              • Medicines (without the obligation to submit a medical prescription)
              • Products for dietary requirements (liquids readily available in the sterile area such as soft drinks and bar products are not included)
              • Baby food (without the obligation of the presence of the child)
              • Such liquids may exceed the 100ml limit.

Medicines and diet products may only exceed the 100ml limit if they are to be used during travel and are required for medical purposes or a special dietary regime. Baby food is also included in the exceptions to the limits for liquids.

Liquids contained in special STEB bags provided in case of purchase of these products at the airside sales points of EU airports or on board aircraft are also permitted.
